Premiering the latest documentary by Sylwester Latkowski at Kazimierz wasn’t an accident: 2002 Latkowski’s film “Pub 700” was recognized as the best Polish documentary during the Film Festival in Kazimierz. The main character of the movie was musician Leszek Możdżer, who in turn composed music for the film “Last Supper”. The starting point of the picture is a story about creating the “Last Supper” painting by Maciej Świeszewski (painter, Gdańsk Art’s Academy professor) – a monumental canvas filled with symbolic, that caused a considerable artistic scandal and extreme critical reactions. Sylwester Latkowski claims that what interested him by creating the film was not only this particular work of art, but also a human being that made it. That is why his document became a kind of a painter’s film-diary, a record of struggles not only with a matter of art, but also with daily life.

Maciej Świeszewski (1950) Painter, Academy of Arts professor. Studied at the PWSSP in Gdańsk. He received his graduation diploma from the Painting Workshop of Jacek Żuławski in 1976. He became a professor in 1994. Headquarter of Art Department in Academy of Arts in Gdańsk. One of the founders of the Society of “Zachęta’s” Friends. President of the Daniel Chodowiecki foundation. In 2006 Świeszewski was awarded with the Kazimierz Ostrowski prize.
