Andrzej Barański’s new film is based on three autobiographical novels written by Zbigniew Masternak. The film is about a young man, Zbyszek, who has to give up his dreams about sport career because of a serious contusion. Despite the fact that Zbyszek was both a talented sportsman, and a poet, his efforts to achieve something it these fields proved futile. He didn’t finish his studies. After returning home Zbyszek feels helpless in a closed world of his village. As Andrzej Barański puts it: “The country in Masternak’s books is different from that we know from television, where it is seen through the eyes of globetrotters. Masternak’s country is the one seen through the eyes of the locals. Not everyone is happy with this image. Masternak divulges a very personal and painful attitude to the presented world and brotherhood. The rural community with condemnable manners is not only folklore, but a product of the social situation, confusion and emptiness, of the chaos that arose between the old and the new times.”
