A quarter of a million kids from Venezuela’s most violent and poor neighbourhoods spend six afternoons a week intensively studying classical music. Filmmaker Cristiano Barbarossa follows five of them over five years through a radical social project (Sistema Nacional de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela) in which children and teenagers, often living in unthinkable circumstances, are given the chance to change their lives through music.

DIRECTOR | Cristiano Barbarossa (1968)
Writer and director of documentary movies. Born in Rome in 1968, and raised between Italy and Venezuela. From 1991 he worked as a production assistant and producer, in the documentary and film industry. Working for RAITRE he made Salute, Cuba (2001), Bananas, Iraq: The Truth Denied, about Iraq before and after the war. Allegro Crescendo – A Slum Symphony is his first feature length documentary.
