A middle part Krzysztof Kieślowski’s film trilogy concerning the slogans of French Revolution. Karol, a Pole married to a beautiful French Dominique, runs a hair saloon in Paris. However, stress caused by a stay in a foreign country makes him an impotent. After six months of unsuccessful effort to consume their relationship, Dominique leaves her husband and takes all his assets with her. On a metro station Karol meets another Pole, Mikołaj – an intellectual, disappointed with life. Mikołaj helps Karol to go back to Poland. Now he will have to fight for a deserving place in the society.  This surprising film takes it’s inspiration from various genres: from a classical melodrama to Charlie Chaplin comedies. Whilst questioning the idea of equality, the film shows the Polish reality in the times of transformation.
